After a short break from the music charts, Madonna has big plans for her next album, which will include a collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Paper Planes rapper M.I.A.
M.I.A. tweeted the news over the weekend. "Summond to NYC by bitchesses > MADONNA and @NICKIMINAJ > cofffffiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee it iz a good day to get me tho trustttt bitches."
Madonna's newest album is set for release in Spring 2012 and has yet to be titled. Her most recent album 2008's Hard Candy peaked at No. 1 in 19 countries despite having only one hit single, 4 Minutes.
Madonna has sold over 300 million albums worldwide, and is poised to continue her reign as the world's top-selling female recording artist of all time with her upcoming album.
She is also scheduled to perform at the Super Bowl and has a film called W.E. -- which she wrote, produced, and directed -- coming out in 2012 as well.

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. --
CaptionGuy Ritchie and Madonna split in 2008 and in a new interview, the "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" director admitted it was a rollercoaster ride.
"I stepped into a soap opera, and I lived in it for quite a long period of my life," Guy told GQ magazine's December 2011 issue. "I'll probably be more eloquent on it 10 years from now."
Guy and Madonna met in 1998 at a dinner party, held by Sting's wife, Trudie Styler, who set them up.
The two married two years later in December 2000 at Skibo Castle in Scotland, and the director said he has no regrets about their union.
"I enjoyed my first marriage. It's definitely not something I regret. The experience was ultimately very positive," he said. "I love the kids that came out of it, and I could see no other route to take. But you move on, don't you?"
The split between the couple resulted in a reported cost – for Madonna – of between $76 million and $92 million. When asked what he learned from their marriage, Guy mentioned money.
"When you end up with a lot of the things you set out to chase and find that you've stumbled into all sorts of hollow victories, then you become deeply philosophical. I'm quite happy that that experience was accelerated for me. I'm glad I made money, in other words," he said. "And I'm glad I got married."
"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" opens on December 16.
Her new single recently leaked and she's rumored to be performing at halftime during this year's Super Bowl – so there's no doubt that the Madonna machine is gearing up for a big 2012. She stayed off the road for most of the 1990s, but in 2001 she came back strong with the Drowned World Tour. She followed it up with even bigger tours in 2004 and 2008/09. While it's impossible to say for sure, if she does perform at halftime, expect her to put the tour onsale the following morning. Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen saw big success with the same trick.
Likelihood: 90 percent. In 2007, Live Nation made a $120 million deal with Madonna. They aren't paying for her to sit home and not tour, especially when supporting a new album. A fake itinerary hit the web a few weeks ago showing Madonna at stadiums in America, but expect to see her at arenas. Also, expect to pay a small fortune for tickets.

Madonna's determination to dance in skyscraper heels is her choreographer's 'pet peeve'.
Dance expert Rich Talauega creates the international superstar's elaborate stage and promo routines with his brother Tone.
Rich says although Madonna is a great person to work with, her attire sometimes leaves much to be desired when picking up routines.
'She's a quick [leaner] ' and we choreograph for a woman that dances in heels! That's our pet peeve, but she makes that sh*t work and makes it sexy,' he told the UK edition of OK! magazine.
'She hates us sometimes and says, 'You know I'm in heels,' I'm like, 'I know baby,' and she goes, 'You should've been born a woman!''
Rich admits he and his brother sometimes clash with the star. He explained Madonna is very head-strong when it comes to her work ethic.
'Oh yeah, quite a few times,' he revealed when asked if they've disagreed before.
'Once I was under the weather and I was close to saying something to her that would've been very disrespectful. I was about to boil up. But later I realised she was doing nothing but pushing us.'
